The Acer Aspire laptops work ok with linux, but there are a few things that will not work. The battery will not work because of Acer's hardware design. So far there is no fix for this problem. Powersave, suspend and hibernate do not work for me at least. On the last note it will run hot.

Just about everything in the Acer Aspire 5745 works except for the Built in Mic. The Ethernet needs the drivers installed. Tested on Ubuntu 10.04.
The battery monitoring does not work at present, however a BIOS update has been reported to fix this problem. Can someone confirm? [UPDATE] Built-in microphone works out-of-the-box in ubuntu 10.10. It has some crappy background noise, though. Card reader doesn't seem to work. However, I will run some test later to see if I can get it running and report back here.
Works well with Ubuntu 10.04, compiz works with the out of the box drivers. Also because of the linux drivers for the intelHD chipset it will not play 3d games well. battery works after performing bios update. [UPDATE] You can play 3D games if you install the nVidia official drivers. To be able to do it, you have to switch to DISCRETE graphics on the BIOS options, if you don't it will be using Intel's graphics instead of the nVidia ones.
