FGLRX drivers for 3D hardware acceleration are available on ati/amd website. Extract the .zip then in terminal sudo ./name_of_driver_executable. Will work on restart(one of the few things requiring restart besides kernel upgrade :D)
In at least some instances, the Acer Aspire 7552G tends to run too hot, with a plain-vanilla GNU/Linux setup. YMMV.
