Weight of the notebook is 2290g(2260g with hdd replacced for ssd). As noted at graphics chip i have some problem:
Ubuntu boots with kernel options “nomodeset, noload=ehci-hcd noload=xhci-hcd” from stick.
Live System boots into text console, maybe someone can give me a hint how to start x or unity with the live filesystem? ok, solution i found was to start install image (not live)
then switch to console 1 (ctrl alt f1) then set display variable and start unity as root:
export DISPLAY=:1 sudo unity
now you have the possibility to start a shell and try some stuff, with secure boot you need ubuntu boot repair Ubuntu boot Repair, most modern Version, ubuntu saucy installs flawless with secure boot but still needs the kernel boot params from above, to run X after install you need to boot into text mode og in and copy /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe to xorg.conf and change config from vesa to fbdev, then reboot into x.
For me it worked, i have a secure boot enabled ubuntu and windows 8 side by side now on my notebook.
kernel 3.11 and up needed for wlan, works fine.
If you want to extend the memory to 12gb make sure that you follow acer's recommendation and either buy the kingston or the hynix 8gb sodimm 1600mhz memory, i've tried corsair 1333 mhz without success and bought a hynix now which works fine!
Adventure is finished.
Please follow steps for acer_aspire_v7-482pg-9884 to get the nvidia optimus working. Signed Versions of the kernel 3.12 can be found at http://packages.ubuntu.com/de/trusty/linux-signed-image-generic.
Machine itself is very nice and compact. Feel free to send a mail if there are questions.
